DIY Ice cream Recipes to try at Home

Ice cream is considered as the perfect treat for every season. In summers, a delicious scoop of your favorite ice cream helps you to stay cool while in winters you can beat the chill with a hot brownie along with your favorite ice cream flavor.

Did you know that like any other do-it-yourself (DIY) project, making ice cream at home can also provide you a sense of extreme pleasure? This feeling you can never achieve by purchasing the readymade stuff. When you make something on your own, you get to experiment with the ingredients and have the ultimate control of the end product. And finally, the joy of serving a bowl of homemade ice cream to your loved ones in unfathomable.

In this blog we will share with you a few DIY ice cream recipes that you can easily try at home:

  • Masala Chai Ice Cream –

This is an exciting fusion flavor of ice-cream where the rustic flavor of masala tea has been infused beautifully.

Ingredients you would need – milk, cream, gram sugar, egg yolk, masala tea powder and concentrated tea.

How to make – Firstly, combine all the ingredients in a saucepan. Then bring it to boil till it thickens. Then remove it from heat and leave it to cool. Next, pour the ice cream mixture into a metal container that is placed over an ice bath. Finally, freeze it for around 4-5 hours and serve chilled.

  • Apricot Ice Cream –

Never did you realize that apricots could taste so good in the form of these creamy scoops sprinkled with pralines and almond on top.

Ingredients you would need for the ice cream- Sweetened and strained apricot puree, sugar, water, egg yolk, cream.

Ingredients for praline – Almonds and sugar

How to make the ice cream – Mix the apricot puree with water and sugar and cook for 5 minutes. Then pour the beaten egg yolks and whisk till it turns thick. Next, add the cream. Freeze the mixture and beat it at regular intervals until it is set. Finally, serve with praline.

How to make the praline – Melt the sugar in a thick based pan and add the almonds. Cook in gentle flame for around 10-minutes, pour it into a tray that has been oiled and let it set. Once it is ready crush it with a rolling pin and sprinkle on top of the ice cream while serving.

  • Mango Ice Cream –

A rich and creamy mango ice cream can prove to be an exceptional seasonal treat.

Ingredients you would need – milk, cream, mango puree, chopped mango, custard powder, vanilla essence and sugar

How to make – Firstly, mix the custard powder in around 1/4th cup of milk and keep aside. Next, heat the rest of the milk with sugar till the mixture comes to a boil and the sugar dissolves. While it is boiling, add the custard mixture and bring it again to boil, then let it come to room temperature.

Now add the mango puree, mango pieces, cream and vanilla essence to the above mixture. Mix it well and transfer it to a container with a tight lid. Freeze till is almost set. Take it out from time to time, whip it and put it back to the freezer. Whip it again when it is almost set and let it freeze again. Now it is ready to be served.
